The Awesomeness Fest Story

About Awesomeness Fest

So whatever it is you do, whether it’s running a business or looking to jazz up your career, Awesomeness Fest will teach you how to do more, accomplish more, and get to your goals faster while having tons of fun and enjoying life. Awesomeness Fest is focused on three themes.

VISION
How to create..

stunningly huge dreams, goals and visions of the impact you want to create in the world and the life you want to live.

MASTERY
How to create..

the right present mindset, emotions and thought mastery to be happy, even before you attain your goals.

CONNECT
Create connections..

with other brilliant people so that you have the right networks, support structures and friendships to keep you soaring.

How it started…

Mindvalley aims to be the world’s greatest workplace by the year 2020. And we’re constantly innovating on our company culture and systems to create an engaged, happy workforce. One of these systems has always been our annual team retreat. Once a year we’d fly 100+ team members to a paradise island for 3 days of bonding and connections.

There, in the midst of paradise, they would forge friendships, share ideas and help each other learn and grow. It was about personal growth and bonding, with a healthy dose of fun and adventure. Our team retreats got famous, and word got out. Soon, well-known speakers and entrepreneurs were attending our team retreats to speak and share their knowledge. As more and more people asked to join these trips we sought to find a way to deliver this experience to more people.

That’s how Awesomeness Fest was born. Except you don’t have to come all the way to South East Asia anymore. In 2010, we took over Costa Rica. In 2011, we enjoyed the beauty of Hawaii and in 2012, it was in the Mayan Riviera in Mexico. In 2013, for the first time ever, Awesomeness Fest expanded to two incredible locations : Bali, Indonesia in August and the Dominican Republic in November – and both events were great successes!

We gather amazing people together and put them through four days of bonding, fun, and seriously powerful growth experiences. And now we’re inviting you to take part in our next Awesomeness Fest. Rumor has it, it might just be the most awesome one yet…

The Story Behind Awesomeness

Our Core Team

Meet the people who are behind Awesomeness Fest 2014!

Vishen Lakhiani, Founder and CEO

Highly successful online entrepreneur, sought after speaker, an inspiration, and a total personal growth junkie. He’s on a quest to redesign education, heighten human consciousness and have a ton of fun doing it.

Tanya Lopez, Events Director

Tanya won our “World’s Most Awesome Job” competition for a lot of reasons. For instance – the personal growth aficionado is a communications ninja with nearly 10 years of experience in PR and marketing for the likes of companies like Nike and NBC-Universal. Fluent in Spanish, she’s worked and lived in New York, Los Angeles and Miami and spent a year traveling the world before launching her own PR and social media consulting practice.

Jaclyn Lee, Events Manager

Jaclyn comes with varied marketing communications experience, from having created advertising for vitamins, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical drugs to managing the marketing for an international nonprofit, where she brought together high profile individuals like President Clinton, Pierce Brosnan, and Elton John around the breast cancer cause. Prior to Mindvalley, this Jersey girl spent a year traveling solo throughout South America.

Rebecca Ambler, Events Manager

This social media & marketing maven came to Mindvalley from the sunny shores of Bondi Beach, Sydney, where she created strategic marketing campaigns for the live events of Australia’s biggest cross platform brand. Her 8 years of marketing and advertising experience (including her original beginnings as a photographer) are complemented by her passion for life, especially travelling.

Laura Viilep, Events Manager

She’s not only Mindvalley’s Events Manager for having managed a crowd of 4200 at a corporate event, but Laura has effortless grace. And it’s due to several factors: she was an aesthetic gymnast, she is a yoga instructor, she has an MA in Organizational Behaviour and she’s a bedroom DJ. Like most of here at Mindvalley, she’s got a serious bug for traveling and has been everywhere from Cambodia to Italy to Puerto Rico.

A message from Vishen Lakhiani:

When we came up with Awesomeness Fest back in March 2010, we saw it as a natural extension of our company Mindvalley’s mission – “to spread enlightened ideas” in business, personal growth and contribution.

Because after being in the personal growth publishing industry for over 10 years, we came to a realization: the single most effective way to spread enlightened ideas is to first present them to thought leaders. In turn, these leaders share the ideas with their tribes. That was the first realization. The second was that hey, thought leaders are fun people. They’d rather be networking than sitting at a boring seminar. They’d rather be on the beach than in a board room. And learning’s always more effective when it’s fun.

Putting one and one together, we hosted our first Awesomeness Fest in December 2010 in Costa Rica. It was a massive success. But after the first event, we realized Awesomeness Fest was far more than just an ideas summit – it was a movement. A-list speakers were waiving their fees. Volunteers were pitching in to help. Word soon spread. All because people believed in the cause.

It didn’t take long for us to make a crucial decision: Awesomeness Fest would be a non-profit organization that exists to serve its participants, and the rest of the world.

From Awesomeness Fest 2011 onwards, every cent of profit we make will go towards creating even more amazing experiences for our tribe, and contributing to charitable causes chosen by us. In 2012, we gave back to Patricia Arquette’s GiveLove, a foundation dedicated to improving global sanitation efforts. Last year, our profits benefited the X Prize Foundation, whose mission is to use incentivized prize competitions to help bring about radical breakthroughs for the benefit of humanity, and in 2014, Awesomeness Fest will continue to support their great mission.
